Fair play, on and off the board
A welcoming table for every player
These terms govern the Chesspoly iOS app, website, online games, replays, and room chat. By using the Service, you agree to these terms and the community standards below.
Using Chesspoly
Chesspoly grants you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive right to use the Service for lawful, non-commercial play. You are responsible for your device, connection, and activity performed through your account or the anonymous guest identity stored on your device.
If you are below the age at which you can agree to online-service terms where you live, a parent or guardian must approve your use of online features. Do not use the Service if doing so would violate applicable law.
Coins have no monetary value
Chesspoly coins exist only inside a game as part of its rules. They cannot be purchased, transferred between games, redeemed, exchanged, or converted into money or anything of real-world value. Chesspoly currently has no in-app purchases or paid wagers.
Community standards
Respect the other side of the board
When using rooms, matchmaking, spectator features, or chat, you must not:
- Harass, threaten, bully, shame, or target another person.
- Post hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or graphically violent material.
- Share another person’s private information or ask others for sensitive information.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your relationship with Chesspoly.
- Spam, advertise, solicit, distribute malware, or post unlawful material.
- Cheat, automate play, exploit defects, disrupt games, or evade service safeguards.
- Use room codes, chat, or guest identities to facilitate harm or illegal activity.
Friendly competitive talk is welcome; personal abuse is not. Keep messages suitable for a general audience and focused on the game.
Your messages and game activity
You remain responsible for text you submit. You grant Chesspoly a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, transmit, moderate, and delete that text only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service or meet legal obligations. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for copies we must retain by law or for an active safety investigation.
Online positions, actions, results, and completed replays may be visible to other users. Completed games and replay steps are retained indefinitely, including after an account is deleted, when player labels are anonymised. Do not use game or chat features to disclose personal data.
Reports and enforcement
Report violations to [email protected] with the room code, approximate time, visible author label, and relevant message. We may investigate, preserve evidence, remove content, limit features, block access, or contact authorities when reasonably necessary to protect users or the Service.
Ownership and third-party materials
Chesspoly’s software, branding, interface, and original artwork are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Some chess-piece artwork and fonts are used under open-source licences. Those third-party materials remain subject to their respective notices and licence terms.
Availability and responsibility
We may maintain, change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service. Online games can be affected by networks, devices, maintenance, and events outside our control. To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without a guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable consumer rights.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms as Chesspoly evolves. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. Continuing to use the Service after an update means the revised terms apply from their effective date. Questions can be sent to [email protected].
